The views from the inn are... read moreReally enjoyed our recent stay. The room was beautifully decorated and the bathroom spacious. The views from the inn are just gorgeous - so quiet and relaxing. We had a great meal with friendly staff. We had an 8 mile circular walk from the Inn and then walked down to the tea room in the village which is a gem.
Only very small suggestion would be to put out a menu for breakfast. Overall - we loved it and would definitely recommend and return. read less

The room was great and had the most amazing shower! Evening meal and breakfast were perfect could not fault the food compliments to the chef. Stayed here overnight with my husband and our pet dog after purchasing a very good deal on an internet site, I was ever so slightly worried after reading previous reviews, but I need not have worried, it was indeed very good.
We arrived early and ate lunch in the bar area, which is very nicely decorated, lunch was good, as was - so my husband told me - the Black Sheep ale. We had a short walk around the very small village of Hawnby and returned to The Owl for another drink on the terrace with it’s stunning views, although quite busy the staff were extremely friendly to both my husband and myself and our dog, who appreciated the offered gravy bones!
Once checked in we were shown to our large, clean, very nicely decorated room with beautiful views and large bathroom. We settled in and watched the tv for a while but we were totally distracted by the stunning views and the coming and goings of village life.
We headed down to the bar for dinner, as dogs are not allowed in the dining room. We were quite surprised to find it quite lively for a small village bar, but we enjoyed the friendly atmosphere. We ordered our food and drinks and both came in good time with only a short wait. My husband ordered steak, which was cooked as he requested and was thoroughly enjoyed, my chicken could have been a little better and larger, but it was ok. We stayed in the bar, seated on the comfy sofa in front of the open fire with our dog at our feet until it was time for bed.
After having one of the best night sleeps I have ever had in a hotel - whatever mattress topper that is on the bed it was certainly worth the money - the bed was super comfy, we headed down for breakfast again in the bar.
A full English was on offer and we could order as much or as little as we wanted. The breakfast was very nice as was the service. My only criticism is that the toast needs to be more toast than the warm bread and butter which was served.
We did check out the dining room, as we had read it was cluttered with too many tables and chairs, to be totally honest it didn’t look cluttered and the mis-matched tables and chairs give it personality and we thought it looked extremely nice.
We would totally return to The Owl to re-charge our batteries. read less

The room was a great size and really well made up with a lovely bathroom and heated towel rack. The bed itself was one of the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in had the best sleep and I normally don’t sleep when I’m away (the wine no doubt helped too!) you could hear the birds chirping away and it was just blissful silence with no traffic and hardly anyone around in one of the most beautiful settings. We were also lucky enough to have the sun although cold it was warm enough to sit in their beautiful beer garden and take in the wonderful views.(they also provide blankets which I thought was a lovely cosy touch) We also had dinner included and the sticky toffee was to die for. Breakfast was also good no fuss either not having to book beforehand etc and arrived quickly all food during stay tasted great. We are looking forward to returning as it was the most peaceful break we have had and enjoyed every minute of it. read less

The room (6) was beautiful, double aspect windows with with beautiful views over the countryside. Large bathroom and everything you need. Staff were lovely and accommodating. Breakfasts were great and set you up for the day. Evening meals were beautiful, the Mushroom tagliatelle is a must! The bar is so cosy in the evenings with the fire burning. Lovely walks too. The staff were faultless as nothing was too much trouble. The accommodation was delightful, the food was delicious with top quality produce and very reasonably priced. I had two pooches with me so took full advantage of the wonderful walks and surrounding countryside views. I would certainly recommend and I look forward to visiting them again soon.
