Lovely location, beautiful views. Only stoped for drinks but staff really friendly and facilities clean. Great pint

If I could offer more than 5, I would. I cannot rate the staff at The Owl highly enough. On a professional level they were warm, friendly and professional. On a personal level, what absolutely wonderful people. I had thd misfortune of a personal crisis and the staff went out if their way to help me. Such thoughtfulnesd and kindness I was not expecting. As for the pub, I ate alone with my dog in the bar ( extra points for dog friendly), and older local couple, and a hiker, and later a young couple were also eating there. The bar was cosy, friendly, unassuming and exactly as a pub should be. Good and honest. I ordered a trout sandwich, it was a chibatta slice with plenty of filling accompanied by chips and slaw. The food was tasty and well presented. My visit would have already been high marking, but the way the staff cared fir me puts them above the scoreboard. I would highly recommend, and hope to revisit one day.

Great hidden gem of a place. Called in for a drink as we were staying nearby. One of those places where you could sit for hours dunking and eating.

First visit to The Owl, but will definitely return. The food was delicious, the staff so friendly and helpful explaining the flavours of each dish. Lovely atmosphere and beautiful views. We were a group of 7 and all agreed it was worth the price. We will be back

Hawnby is a nice village in a scenic area of the North York Moors. The pub has outdoor benches and tables with a nice outlook in the summer sun.

I didn't have food, but it is known for that. There is a short kids menu (sausage and chips, pasta and sauce etc) which I mention only because it isn't mentioned on the website.

The good thing about a drink here is that you can also go for a walk! A short but steep climb pretty much opposite the pub takes you up Hawnby Hill, which is a nice walk in the area with views in all directions. Doesn't take much more than 30 minutes return.

A couple of visits this week for a meal. Friendly staff, good beer and excellent food. Also dog friendly in the bar - recommend booking in advance.
We've been staying next door in Tiggywinkle Cottage which is also excellent and a 2 minute walk away.

We stopped at this lovely dog friendly village pub while travelling in our motorhome. Very friendly staff and locals. Had a lovely meal and it felt so cosy and welcoming. We ending staying the night in our campervan in the pub carpark. Food and service and people were all lovely. Would highly recommend. Gem of a place.5

Followed directions to Hawnby and came across a sign on the side of a building - The Owl. Parked near the village hall and wandered over to what we believed to be the pub. Thought it was actually closed. It was only when we looked at the sign that we thought that perhaps if we went in the direction of the ‘arrow’, we might come across the pub.
I’m so glad we did! A lovely setting. It was warm enough to sit outside. The Yorkshire rarebit was very tasty. We would definitely recommend having lunch here and so glad that we didn’t give up!
